Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii (January 31st, 2013): After four straight lei days, live coverage and competition is set to be underway at the 2013 Volcom Pipe Pro. The previous days were generally either too small or too big and messy to run the contest. Today’s conditions are looking just right and with the building swell an action-packed day of surfing is expected.

The contest will start out as usual with a local trial heat and round one, but before the round of 96 there will be a special ‘Volcom Last Chance Qualifier’ heat new for 2013. The ‘VLCQ” will be a 30 minute, 6 man heat in which local Volcom and Electric team riders Kawai Lindo, JD Irons, Tom Dosland, Mark Healey, Gavin Beschen and David Wassel will all be battling it out for the last wildcard spot into the contest.

“We have such an amazing group of Pipe surfers,” said Volcom Hawaii Team Manager Dave Riddle, “so this heat will decide who gets our wildcard. They all have so much talent. May the best man win!”
